Biography

Shari began singing gospel in church at the age of five.  Classically trained at the Cleveland Music School Settlement under the tutelage of Dr. William Dempsey and jazz inspired by legendary jazz artists Ella Fitzgerald, Al Jarreau, Nancy Wilson and Dianne Reeves, Shari has developed into a jazz vocalist tour du force.  Shari has been a jazz vocalist for more than 25 years.

Earlier in her career, she was hired on the spot to sing back-up for national recording artist Jean Carn.  After that, she performed in a jam set with George Duke, Stanley Clark and Najee onstage at the former Front Row Theatre as well as performed with Michael Stanley and other national artists on a project entitled C.A.R.E. (Cleveland Artists Recording for Ethiopia). 

Shari placed 2nd as Best Female Jazz Vocalist - sponsored by WCPN Radio Station - 90.3.  Also that same year, Shari sang the National Anthem for the Cleveland Indians.  In 1999, Shari presented a special concert which was featured in Cleveland's local press.  In 2001, Performed with Vince Robinson & The Jazz Poets at The Cleveland Art Museum. 
In 2003, Shari Hunter performed at A La Jazz Rendezvous (an annual concert that showcases Cleveland's top performers) held at The Cleveland Play House. 

Currently, Shari is one of Cleveland Ohio's best kept secrets who's on the rise. In 2012, Shari was selected as a judge for the Vocal Classical and Vocal Contemporary categories for The Cleveland Branch NAACP 2012 ACT-SO Competition.  Her most recent performances include: Cleveland Metroparks Zoo Earthfest 2012, Phil The Fire, Cleveland-Heights/University Heights Noble Neighborhood Public Library, Shaker Heights Public Library, and The Renaissance Hotel.
